How do I know if Back Pain is serious?

Back pain can range from mild to severe; in some cases, it can signify a more serious underlying condition. Back pain is generally considered severe if any of the following symptoms accompany it:

Numbness or tingling in the legs or feet, which can be a sign of nerve damage

Loss of bladder or bowel control, an emergency requiring immediate medical attention

Severe or worsening pain that does not improve with rest or home treatments

Unexplained weight loss, fever or chills

A history of cancer or osteoporosis increases the risk of severe underlying conditions

It's important to note that even if your back pain is not severe, you should still consult with your chiropractor if it lasts longer than a couple of weeks, as it can be a sign of an underlying condition that needs attention.
