How can you tell if Back Pain is muscular or something else?

There are a few ways to determine whether your back pain is due to a muscle strain or injury or if it may be caused by something else. Here are a few signs to look for:

Location: Muscle pain is often localized to a specific area of the back, such as the upper back, lower back, or neck. If your pain is more widespread or moves around, it may be caused by something else.

Movement: Movement may be complex or restricted by muscle strain or injury. If your pain worsens with activity, it's more likely to be caused by a muscle issue. Conversely, if your pain improves with movement, it's less likely to be a muscle issue.

Duration: Muscular pain usually occurs suddenly and is acute, lasting less than 3-6 months. If pain persists over 6 months, it's likely to be chronic and could be related to other underlying causes.

Intensity: Muscular pain is usually a dull or achy sensation, while pain caused by something else can be sharp or severe.

Other Symptoms: If you experience other symptoms like fever, weight loss, unexplained fatigue or weakness, this may be indicative of other underlying conditions.

It's important to note that these signs may not always be reliable indicators of the cause of your back pain. If you're unsure what's causing your pain or if it persists, it's always a good idea to see a chiropractor for an evaluation. Some imaging tests, like X-rays and MRI, may also be done to confirm the diagnosis.
