What is the most common reason for Neck Pain?
The most common reason for neck pain is muscle strain or injury. The neck, shoulders and upper back muscles are often overworked, especially in people who spend a lot of time sitting or using electronic devices. This prolonged posture can lead to tension, stiffness, and pain in the neck. Other factors contributing to neck pain include lack of physical activity, stress, and carrying heavy bags or backpacks.
Another common cause of neck pain is cervical radiculopathy, which occurs when a nerve root in the neck becomes compressed or irritated. This pathology can cause pain, numbness, and tingling in the neck and shoulders, as well as weakness or loss of function in the arm or hand.
Additionally, the wear and tear of daily life, like poor sleeping, long hours of sitting or standing, and repetitive movement, can cause wear and tear on the cervical spine and result in pain.
While these are common causes, neck pain can also be caused by other underlying conditions such as herniated discs, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and more severe conditions like spinal cord compression, vertebral fractures, and tumours, which need prompt attention and diagnosis.
It is important to note that if the pain persists or is accompanied by other symptoms such as difficulty in breathing, swallowing, holding the head up, or weakness in the arms or legs, it's necessary to see a chiropractor to rule out any serious underlying condition.
